I Moved to Thailand After Divorce and Was Betrayed Again

A Word Before I Begin

I do not want to come across as controversial by sending in my story. I know so many men who have been burned in their home countries and many of them have decided to give up on dating and the chance of having a relationship at home. I didn’t think that’s where I would be.

I never thought I would be one of them because up until not long ago, I thought I was happily married.

The Life I Thought I Had

The Life I Thought I Had

We’d been together since we were at school. We had a nice house together. Two great children and as far as I was concerned we were both having a great life together. We’d go away on holidays two times a year and we were investing for the future and we were lucky enough to be able to send our children to a good school.

I worked hard and as husbands do, I needed to be able to provide for my family. That did mean that sometimes I might have been tired after coming back from work and just wanted to relax. Yes, I’m only human after all, and I could get burned out easily. My wife didn’t see it that way. She saw it as me being distant on purpose for not coming home after putting 12 hours in at work and wanting to immediately spend time with the children. It was a sacrifice I thought I was making to give them a good life and to give her a good life.

I always had Sunday free and this was family time, and I thought my family understood what I was giving to them all.

    A Stay at Home Mom

    A Stay at Home Mom

My wife was a stay-at-home mom. That is a lot more rare than it used to be and I prided myself on the fact that my wife didn’t need to work and was able to look after the house and take care of our children. It was her job to take them to school and pick them up in the evenings. Her job to do the shopping. And I thought I was giving her the possibility to be able to spend time with the children. I didn’t think I was hindering her by not allowing her to work. That wasn’t the case at all.

I really loved her. She was my first girlfriend and I was her first boyfriend and we just stayed together. And I felt the relationship was very strong.

    The Day My World Ended

    The Day My World Ended

So, I may be forgiven for being more than a little bit shocked when one day after I got home from work another 12 hours I’d put in just to try to do the best for my family all her things and the children’s things were packed up in boxes.

I asked her what was going on, and she told me she didn’t want to stay with me anymore. She’d met somebody new, and she was going to move in with him.

I could not believe what I was hearing. When did she have the time to meet somebody else? Well, she wasn’t working, so she had all the free time in the world. She explained how he was there for her and I wasn’t. No mention of me working for her.

With that, my whole world turned upside down. The love of my life, the mother of my children, was not who I thought she was. And the indignity of watching her pack her and my children’s things into another man’s car outside my house was overwhelming.

    The System Stacked Against Us

    The System Stacked Against Us

It’s sad that this has happened to so many people. So many good men having their lives turned upside down and ripped away from them by selfish acts of their wives. I’m not trying to sugarcoat things. I bet there are some guys out there who didn’t treat their wives very well or who didn’t want to go out and work as hard as they could to give their families a good life. But there are so many guys that do that. And I don’t think when this is the case, she should be able to just take the children away just because of her feelings.

I bet you can imagine just how shocked I was when all this came to light. As quickly as I returned home, I watched them leave. And for me, this came completely out of the blue. Unexpected. And I would have bet any money that this wouldn’t have happened to me. But it had just happened now and it was a shocking realization of just how one-sided the whole system is.

    Losing My Children

    Losing My Children

Time went on and I didn’t have any chance to see my children. I have no doubt that she was brainwashing them, telling them all kinds of lies about me. They were in their early teens and I just hoped that they saw things for what they were. We had two boys, so that was my hope that they saw what their mom had done and would make better decisions than I did when they grew up.

Divorce papers arrived in the post, which meant we had to sell the house and everything was split, and she came for me for child maintenance. I can understand where child maintenance can be appropriate. But if the wife leaves the husband just because she doesn’t want to stay with him anymore no extenuating circumstances, then she should have to bear the brunt of her decision.

I tried to say that I wanted my children to stay with me, but she won and I had money knocked off my wage for the next number of years. So, while she was going off on holiday all the time with her new husband and my children, I was the one paying for it and didn’t have any savings left over, apart from some from the house sale.

How your life can turn around, though, through no fault of your own, is a disgusting state of the West. Things seem to have gone too far in the wrong direction.

    Back to Dating A Nightmare

    Back to Dating A Nightmare

I started dating again, but most of the time I met someone, they were always cold. And when they found out I had child maintenance payments to make, lots of them lost interest. It always seemed to be about what I could give them or what I could provide, not “well, we might love each other and make things work.”

Perhaps I was too overly romantic. And when I thought about how earlier generations married and stayed together through thick and thin, it made me envious of just how much easier things used to be. Everything is stacked so heavily against us as men in the West. And when you’re jumping back into the dating scene after never having really dated your whole life because we just started out together from early on you learn some hard truths about the state of the modern world. Really hard truths.

But I refused to give up. I was sure that there were still some normal women out there who were not just interested in material things and what I could bring to the table. When they found out I had children that I had to pay for, they ran. But I wasn’t allowed to run when I found out that they had children that they had to pay for.

    The Drinking Years

    The Drinking Years

The next few years went by and I started drinking heavily after work just to cope with the stress of losing my family and the fact that I was working and money was just going out of the door. Her new husband made more money than I did. So I wonder why she left me. But she took the children to go and live with him and took them away from me.

I was happy to pay for them when they were with me. I’d have been happy for them to live with me and I’d pay for everything and not ask her for anything. So giving money to her was worse than burning double the amount. It tore me to shreds and drinking was the only way I could cope.

I didn’t go on holiday. I didn’t do anything. I just existed and waited for my children to get old enough so that I could be free of this degrading loss of income that I was suffering.

    The Idea of Thailand

    The Idea of Thailand

I don’t know how I came across the idea of Thailand, but I found myself getting engrossed in content made by people similar to me living in Thailand. They were talking about how much better it was for men than the West, how the girls there are not as demanding, how they are a lot more family-oriented, how they respect their elders more. And to top that off, it was meant to be a lot more affordable to live there.

When I was looking at the possibility of going to Thailand, it was only half an idea, a dream that I never thought I would actually do.

    My Children’s Support

    My Children’s Support

But on one rare occasion when I had the fortune of being able to see my own children that I was paying for by now they were 16 and 17 in higher education, so I still had to pay. They could see how miserable I was. And they even told me that they understood how I felt. And although they loved their mom as you’d expect, because it was their mom they didn’t like what she did. And they could see that their own futures were in jeopardy because of how modern women treated their men.

It was my eldest son who said that he had a friend who had visited Thailand, and that started me thinking about Thailand again. Maybe I could go and just see what it was all about and see if it was meant to be.

My children supported me. My eldest even told me to quit my job so that I didn’t have to give their mother any money. “I don’t need it. Her new husband makes a lot more than me.” Some people might say that it’s not her new husband’s responsibility because they’re not his children. Well, he should have married someone without children then. That’s my perspective.

    My Savings

    My Savings

I didn’t do anything anymore. I still managed to save money every month even though a lot of it was going out. And because we sold the house, I got half of it. I was left with some money. It didn’t feel like a lot, but I’ll tell you exactly. It was £200,000 or thereabouts.

I found myself looking for an excuse to go to Thailand. I felt guilty just wanting to go for my own reasons and my own entertainment. That excuse came when I was informed by my job that I hadn’t used any of my holidays that year and they weren’t going to pay me for the days I didn’t use, so I might as well use them. I had 15 days so 3 weeks. I just decided to book that ticket to Thailand and see what all the fuss was about.

When I told my children I was going to Thailand, they fully supported me. But they said that mom was talking about how desperate I must be. Why are these women so vindictive and cunning and manipulative even trying to manipulate their own children against their father, who did nothing wrong apart from work all the time to try to support them?

    First Flight to Thailand

    First Flight to Thailand

With that, I bought the ticket and flew out for the last three weeks of 2023. All I’d done is work for the past number of years since my wife left me and took the children. And when I was at home, I drank. It’s not the existence I wanted. But when you’re miserable and lonely and you’ve tried dating people in your own country and everything turns into “what can I get out of it” it makes you feel like there’s no point dreaming about anything anymore or even trying to do anything. What’s the point?

But when I boarded the plane to Bangkok, I felt a calm come over me that I hadn’t actually felt for a long time. Like I got three weeks just for myself without anyone asking for anything from me, without anyone nagging at me and bugging me and asking where the money is. Just 3 weeks of what I hoped would be bliss.

    First Impressions

    First Impressions

When you get to Bangkok, you’re tired. It’s a long flight, and I couldn’t afford business class. The seats are too cramped, and that destroyed my back on that flight. And in Thailand, I’d heard they had good massages. So, I can remember getting there somewhere around midday, going to the hotel, and walking into the first massage place close by to be greeted with a smile. It was so different to normal interactions at home where everyone seemed so angry all the time. But here, people seemed so happy and it was refreshing.

It was a great massage as well only a massage and I went back to the hotel thinking my first experience in Thailand, if this is anything to go on, I’ve done the right thing to come here.

    The Nightlife

    The Nightlife

I’d heard of the legendary nightlife and that night I went out and experienced it firsthand. I’d say that legendary doesn’t do justice to how fantastic it was. I was under no illusion that the girls that worked in bars around where I was staying were professionals, but at least you knew what their expectations were and what they were doing. It was such a mind game back at home. Well, you don’t actually know what anybody wants from you. You know they want something, but what?

In Thailand, at least they were so nice and friendly, even though they wanted your money. And that made a nice change.

My first day in Thailand was the best day I had since the holiday I went on with my ex-wife and children over 10 years ago when we went to Florida and to the theme parks there. And I really had to work hard to be able to pay for that. But we had a good time. I was having a better time than that and I was only on my first day. I felt like I definitely made the right decision to go to Thailand.

    A New Feeling

    A New Feeling

I can vividly remember going back to my hotel that evening on my first night, feeling like all my problems weren’t there. I was so far away from all that and I was here to enjoy myself and I was allowed to enjoy myself, which made a change.

I remember the next morning as well going down to the hotel breakfast and being greeted by staff in such a friendly way. They were just so friendly. People who were working like they actually wanted to be doing what they were doing. People weren’t miserable. People smiled at each other. It was such a breath of fresh air.

    Discovering Pattaya

    Discovering Pattaya

I did find Bangkok to be too busy for my liking. When it’s hot and you’re going from one place to another, walking up steps to the sky train, not being able to sit down at my age and having a bad back, it was quite stressful. You could jump in a taxi and go somewhere, but you’d be sat in the traffic for far too long. But I knew Thailand wasn’t all about Bangkok. I wanted something like this, but a little smaller and a little easier to navigate. And that’s when I went to Pattaya.

For me, it was just the right size where if you stayed in the middle, you could walk to where you wanted to go pretty much. It had the beach and the bars even more bars than were in Bangkok. It was more affordable for food and drink than Bangkok. And I felt like it was a perfect town in Thailand.

I knew I didn’t want to get carried away and fall in love. I was street smart enough to know how many people can fall for the charms of the girls that worked in the bars. And while I was happy to spend some time with them, I didn’t want anything serious just yet. The first female companionship I had since my wife left me and they were different to my wife. Your wife is meant to be loving, but I found that was the opposite.

    The Pain of Leaving

    The Pain of Leaving

Unfortunately, my holiday was coming to an end. I spent most of it in Pattaya, and I loved it. The best time I’d had in years. And the thought of having to go back home made me feel awful. Couldn’t I just stay in Pattaya and have a different life and start to enjoy myself for once? I’d never thought that I was allowed to enjoy myself. I thought it was my job to have a bad time so my family could have a good one. But now I’m starting to think I had it wrong.

I could live in Thailand and just have a good time all the time. But I had to return home. And I’ve heard it in so many of the stories guys saying that when you’re leaving Thailand on that plane returning home, it’s a feeling like no other. It’s indescribable how bad you feel the further away you go from Thailand. Thailand is where you want to be. You don’t want to be at home, and knowing you’re going to be there with no end in sight to when you can get to Thailand again that’s hard.

I can remember arriving at my house cold and raining outside. This was just before New Year. Looking around and seeing gray, dull, boring houses and people looking like they didn’t want to be there. But they didn’t know where they could go to make things better.

You open the door and see a load of post that you haven’t opened for 3 weeks. The first one you open is your ex-wife demanding more money. And that brings you back to reality very quickly.

My Children Said: Go For It

My Children Said: Go For It

I saw my children that week after the New Year and they were eager to know how I liked Thailand. And when I told them I wanted to live there, they even said to me that I should just do it. I could make it work if I needed to. With everything I had, it would be about £200,000. It wouldn’t give me much of an income, and I knew how much I needed to spend when I was there. But when my children told me to go for it, that’s when I actually started to think about just doing it.

Going back to work, I quickly forgot about Thailand and just got back to my old way of doing things. Going to work, coming home, drinking just to escape the boredom and loneliness. That went on for a few months and the thoughts of Thailand were now distant memories. I was watching a lot of content about Thailand and that kept me sane.

    The Hand Was Forced

    The Hand Was Forced

That’s when I had my hand forced. I was at work one day and a huge meeting was called. The company was doing some restructuring and they were looking for people to take voluntary redundancy. I’d been working at the company for years and years and I was offered a package that I simply could not refuse. £50,000. I earned a lot more than that. But after giving most of it away in child maintenance and rent to pay on the house cuz I didn’t have one anymore it’s amazing how quickly money can go.

But I took the offer. Most of it was tax free, but I had to pay tax on a bit of it. And I can remember feeling free. I didn’t have to pay my ex-wife anymore because I wasn’t working. And I had just short of £250,000.

    The Plan

    The Plan

Now, I thought about the idea of buying a house and trying to get a new job. But then I fell back to Thailand. Could I move to Thailand? I’d watched enough videos to know that lots of people say you can live on £1,000 a month in Thailand, and they showed me examples of what life you could live on this amount. But then there were guys who said, “You need at least double that if you want to have a good time.”

I’d been in Thailand and I knew how much I spent. I wouldn’t be able to do that every day, but twice a week I would. That was if I spent most of my money on property at home and rented it out. In my area, £100,000 would buy you a two-bedroom terrace, and those were renting out at £700 a month. If I bought two of them, that would be £1,400 a month and I’d have £50,000 left over as an emergency fund and if I wanted to do anything with it when I was in Thailand.

I don’t know if you’re going to know what I’m talking about here, but you know when you get that feeling in the pit of your stomach like you want to do something and you actually find out it’s possible. That’s how I was feeling.

I can remember speaking to my children when I saw them next time, telling them my plan. And they encouraged me to just go for it. “It’s time to start enjoying yourself,” they told me. And I thought, why don’t I?

    The Move

    The Move

3 months later, I had two rental properties. I was getting just under £1,400 a month from them, and I just hoped that my tenants would be reliable. I knew how bad it felt to rent. I had to rent for a while before. Never thought to buy a house. I just wanted my money to be safe. But although I felt bad taking two weeks of someone’s life just so they had a place to live, it afforded me the ability to follow my dream.

When my ex-wife found out that I was leaving when she found out that I was starting to be happy again she was even more bitter than before. She tried to get more money from me, but she couldn’t. My youngest didn’t go to university and he didn’t have long left on his A levels. So, I was finally off the hook of having to send money to her. That was one of the best feelings not having to send money to that person ever again. I was finally free.

    One Way Ticket

    One Way Ticket

My plan was to fly to Thailand, enter on the visa exempt, and then get a retirement visa and extension. But I can remember flying back to Thailand. I had a one-way ticket to Thailand booked and a very cheap flight to Cambodia booked for 30 days’ time because you needed an onward ticket. And as soon as the plane lifted off the ground, I said goodbye to England forever. I had no plans to return. It was even happier than I was going last time because this time I was going for good.

Arriving in Bangkok, I felt like a natural. The first time I was there, I didn’t know where to go or what to do to get to my hotel, but now I did. And I got in the taxi and went to my hotel.

    Getting the Visa Sorted

    Getting the Visa Sorted

I spent a few days in Bangkok before going to Pattaya, where I went to immigration and inquired about the retirement visa. I knew I needed 800,000 baht in the bank, but I didn’t have a Thai bank account yet. That was a struggle to get, but I managed with the help of an agent. I don’t know if I had bad information, but I was told I needed to go out of the country to get a non-immigrant visa, which I did to Laos. And when I got back, I would be able to extend it when it nearly expired. I’ve since learned it might have been possible to do the visa from in Thailand directly.

With all that sorted out, I found a condo to rent. When I was in the condo on the first night I was lucky enough to find one with a view of the ocean I had that sense of calm come over me that I hadn’t felt for a long time. Could I finally be content in my life after everything my ex-wife did to me?

    Settling In

    Settling In

I quickly got into living in Thailand and I was very happy that I’d made the move. I’d been there for 3 months and I was taking things slowly, but I knew I really wanted to find someone. I hated living alone and I joined some dating sites, but I didn’t have any luck meeting any genuine girls on there. I was spending two or three days a week in the bars. And while I had a good time with some of the girls that worked there, I never thought about getting into a relationship with one of them.

That was until I met a girl who completely changed my mind.

    Meeting Her

    Meeting Her

She was younger than me at 37, and her story seemed to be different to the typical stories that most girls that worked in the bars used to tell me. Most of them had children in their village their husband was a bad man and left them and they came to work in Pattaya to send money to their children.

She said that she used to be a nurse but with some complications and problems with her job, she found herself working in this bar and I quote because she wanted to meet someone. She had a child from a previous relationship but they lived with their father. I’d never heard that one before, but she said that she sent money to support her son.

I was intrigued about this girl because to me she seemed sophisticated and worldly. Those were the vibes I got from her, however accurate or inaccurate they may have been. But I found myself wanting to get to know her. I knew what the game was, but I also knew that there were exceptions, and I thought that she may be the exception based on all the experience I had with similar girls. But I suppose it wasn’t that much experience compared to some guys.

    Taking Things Slow

    Taking Things Slow

We took things slow. I went to meet her at a bar a few times a week until it was discussed her leaving the bar and moving in with me. She wasn’t coming off as too keen or too excited or anything like that. She was just behaving like I thought any girl would do in that situation.

We did agree that she could move into my condo. Let’s just see how things go for a month and if we like each other’s company, we can take things further after that. I wasn’t committing to anything too serious too quickly. And when we were living together, it was just as I hoped it would be.

    Honesty and Openness

    Honesty and Openness

One thing that I always told her was, “I want you to be honest and open with me about everything. So if someone calls you maybe one of the guys you met before you need to show me and be honest with me. I don’t need you to hide anything.” She agreed to do this, and it was clear she had interest from other guys, but most of them were living overseas. I was asking her if they sent her any money and she looked at me and her face said yes even though she said no.

After a month I was having the best time with her and I asked her if she wanted to be 100% with me. That would mean that she would have to cease contact with all the other guys and would have to commit to being with me. If things went well for the next 3 months we could take things to the next level again. And she agreed to do this. And she told me that she stopped contacting everybody else and told them that she found someone. She did show me a message or two that she sent and it proved that she’d done this.

Perhaps I should have asked to see all the messages she sent, but I trusted her and we began living an exclusive relationship.

    She Was Amazing

    She Was Amazing

She was amazing. She was so different to my old wife. She seemed to be happy all the time. She seemed to actually like my company and actually want to be with me. I forgot what it was like to have the company of a real female. And I was loving the fact I was living in Thailand with this amazing girl.

3 months of living together and having a great time she showed me nothing to indicate that she was still contacting other guys. She showed me nothing to indicate that she was not going to be faithful. So I asked her to marry me. She seemed happy and 3 weeks later we found ourselves for the first time going up to her village in Korat.

    Meeting the Family

    Meeting the Family

Being introduced to her family was strange, but they were all polite and welcoming, and we arranged to get married in a month’s time. In the meanwhile, we could sort out the formalities of all the paperwork. We returned in a month. We had the ceremony. It was a great ceremony, but very alien to anything I’d seen before. I was still very new to Thailand, and I hadn’t seen much out of Bangkok or Pattaya, but this part of Thailand was completely different.

When we were there, she was different as well. I could tell that’s where she really wanted to be. Although she wouldn’t admit it to me. That’s where she came from. That’s where she felt at home. And that’s where she felt comfortable. I could really tell.

    Her Dream

    Her Dream

And I asked her on the day we got married what her dream was her real big dream. And she said it was to build a house on some land that she had been given by her father, live there, and just be happy and hopefully get to see her child more often.

She took me to look at this land. It wasn’t anything flashy just a rectangular block. On both sides were houses that were already built. There were adjoining walls next to these two houses, but the back and front of the land was still open. She pointed out everything that she wanted where the house would be, where she’d park the car (she didn’t have a car at the moment), and where she’d have a hammock to be able to relax.

I could definitely see the appeal. This part of Thailand was so different to Pattaya. And if I thought back to the months we spent together in Pattaya, we didn’t go out as much as I did when I was single. And when we did, we didn’t go to the bars or any of the tourist spots. We went to more local places. So, we didn’t really even need to be in Pattaya.

    The Cost

    The Cost

I can remember asking how much would it cost to build a house. Just so happened that the house next to her land had just been built. She said it cost 1.6 million baht. I hadn’t yet worked out the conversion so perfectly, and it took me a while, but I worked out that that was less than £40,000.

It made me think could I build a house with her and live here? I still have my rental income, but that money would go a lot further here, and we could go on holidays anytime we want. I’d heard stories about people building houses on land that couldn’t belong to them, and it’s a bit of a minefield. What happens if things go wrong? But I was so happy with her and she seemed happy and said, “Let’s think about it for now.” She said if she could, she would, but it was going to be difficult because I wanted to live in Pattaya.

I told her that I didn’t really mind where I lived as long as I was with her. “Shall we look into building a house?” I don’t think she believed me at first, but I did have the £50,000 emergency fund. Some of it was in the bank for my visa extension, but I could just scrape together enough to be able to build a house. We talked about it and went back to Pattaya and really gave it a month of hard thought to understand if that’s what we’re actually going to do.

The Moment That Sealed the Deal

The Moment That Sealed the Deal

But one day something happened that sealed the deal. We were walking on the street in Pattaya and it was so busy with tourists and people behaving badly. I wanted something quieter. And I can remember when someone walked past me on the street and barged right into me without even trying to move out of the way. I just said, “Let’s go and live in Korat and build a house.” And that’s what we did.

We left Pattaya, rented somewhere in Korat for a while while we built the house. It only took 3 months to build and we’d already moved in. How your life can change so quickly is remarkable. One minute we’re living in Pattaya in a condo overlooking the ocean. The next we’re in our own house in the middle of nowhere.

    Life Was Good

    Life Was Good

We were getting on so well together and I was happy. The income I was getting from my rental properties gave us a great life in the first few months of being there. And we even bought an old runaround car. I couldn’t afford to buy a new one.

My children came to visit and I showed them where I lived, and they were really happy that I seemed to have found happiness. I showed them Bangkok and Pattaya and they thought it was all wild and even wanted to move there themselves. But when they left, I went back home and I felt content for the first time in a long time.

    But All Good Things…

    But All Good Things…

All good things have to come to an end so quickly as well. I was in the hammock the hammock in the place where my wife said she wanted it. And she was sat next to me on a chair. And I asked if she could go inside, pretty please, and bring me a beer. She did, and she left her phone on the chair.

She had a message come in. We never locked our phones. We were meant to be open with each other. But I thought I’d take a look. I’d never looked at her phone before. I don’t think I’d ever looked at her phone even once. But I decided to have a quick look as a joke, if anything. And there was a message from a guy saying he hoped to see her again soon.

When she came out, I asked who it was and she tried to play it off saying it was just one of the people she knew from a long time ago. And I asked her if that was the case, just show me the message history with him. But she refused.

And then here I am thinking, “Jesus Christ, have I just done it again?” Just when you stop thinking everything is bad and start thinking everything is good, you find out something like this.

    The Truth

    The Truth

Up until that point, I was really happy with her and I thought she was honest and open. I was married to her for God’s sake. And she finally let me look at the message because I promised her that I wouldn’t have any issues with what I saw. She’d been contacting him ever since we were together. The worst part when I was visiting my children, she’d been to visit him.

I just looked at her and thought, “What’s wrong with you? Aren’t we happy?” But she said that he sent her money every month. I never questioned where she got the money to buy certain things from. I just thought it must have been from her savings. Then the realization came the phone that I was holding in my hand, my phone that she had bought for me for my birthday are you telling me she used this guy’s money to buy me a phone? I didn’t know what to make of it.

The fact that she’d just seen him meant it was more than just him giving her money. I could have overlooked her just getting his money, but for her to have been with him when I was visiting my children well, it looks like I just lost this house that I built. That’s what I was thinking.

    Another Chance

    Another Chance

Luckily, the car I bought although it was only a cheap one was in my name. But I asked her, “Are you prepared to cease contact with him once and for all? Not care about the money he sends? You’re not going to get any more from me than I already give you.” She promised and she said she wouldn’t keep in touch with him. I didn’t believe her, but I let it go.

But then she started locking her phone. When I asked her if I could look at it, she said, “Why don’t you trust me?” And I told her, “Well, you made me not able to trust you. Let me look at it.” But she always refused. I then told her, “If you don’t let me look at the phone and there’s nothing on it, I’ll never ask you again and we’ll be good.” But she still refused. So it was obvious that she was trying to hide something.

She couldn’t bring herself to give up the money that this guy was sending her every month. And I thought, I’m not prepared to accept this. I’ve been burnt twice now.

    Driving Away

    Driving Away

I drove the car that I bought down to Pattaya. Apart from the fact that it didn’t make it that far, it broke down halfway. But if you’ve been to Thailand, you know that some of the people there are so incredibly friendly and helpful and kind. I can’t have been broken down for less than 10 minutes and someone had already pulled over trying to help and even managed to get the car started again. And I did make it down to Pattaya.

My wife was calling me all the time, begging me to go back, saying how sorry she was that she wouldn’t let me look at the phone. But she could have deleted everything by now. And I wasn’t going to be that schmuck who was prepared to be burnt by two different women.

    Living Single in Pattaya

    Living Single in Pattaya

I’m now living single in Pattaya and I have given up on the chance or the hope of love. It’s just not going to happen. No matter where you are in the world, people are only after what’s best for them. And if that means hurting you along the way, they’re going to do it. There’s no difference really between girls in different parts of the world. I thought there was.

In Thailand, I can safely say that the girls act differently. They are a lot more smiley, a lot friendlier, a lot more accommodating, and a lot less demanding. But they are still demanding and still will do things to you that you would never guess them doing. My English wife never smiled, wasn’t friendly, was not accommodating, and she was more demanding. But I suppose it comes down to which of the two would you expect, if any.

I’m not prepared to accept any of them now, and I haven’t even tried to have a serious relationship since this happened. I don’t have an emergency fund now, but I still have my income from the properties, and that affords me a reasonable lifestyle in Pattaya. I can have company when I want, but I don’t want anything serious because it’s never worked out for me.

    A Warning

    A Warning

I suppose I wrote this as a warning to any of the guys who think that just because they’ve come to Thailand, the girls are going to be different, a different species altogether. But that’s not the case. They just go about things in a different way to destroy you a friendlier way. But still, they’re not going to give up money coming in. He was sending her 20,000 baht a month and she thought that was acceptable to go and see him occasionally because of this even with me as her husband. That was not going to happen.

I’ve been single for just about a year now in Pattaya. I can remember back to the first time my English wife left me and I was so lonely. All I wanted was company and someone to spend my life with. I’ve completely got over that now. I don’t think about it anymore and I’m happy in my own company.

That’s my advice to any man out there. Be happy with yourself. Be happy with your own company. And don’t fall for the tricks of women anywhere in the world. Because one way or another, all they want is what they can get out of you. And that’s the truth.
