Thailand to the Philippines A Wild Ride

story-one-from-thailand-to-the-philippines-a-wild-ride

So the story goes after our 3 day stay at the Airbnb in Pattaya my friends and I are set to leave for Bangkok because we’ll be catching a flight to the Philippines the next day. Our friend who had the ATV accident was set to leave later on that day back home to the States. Another friend who I’ll name Alex was set to leave the same day as us when we were leaving for the Philippines as well. He told us that he really wanted to join us but he couldn’t take any more time off work.

Then at the last minute another friend decided to change his flight as well. He was supposed to join us in the Philippines but he said he missed his dogs and he missed home terribly. So coincidentally he was able to change his flight to fly alongside Alex back home. The next day we all grab one final meal together and say our goodbyes for the time being telling each other to have a safe flight to wherever you’re going. Now it was only the four of us me Kurt Lewis and Daniel who were set to fly later on that evening.

We landed in Manila the next morning at around 400 AM and got a taxi heading to Angeles City. It was still pretty dark out but I could kind of tell right away that the Philippines didn’t quite have the modernization of Thailand. The taller buildings you’d see in the distance while on the highway looked older and a bit beaten up. The roads had their fair share of cracks street lights didn’t work like how you’d see in other places. But nonetheless we arrived safely at our hotel and we tipped our driver a fair amount. When we did that we saw this young man approach us from a distance and he asked us for some money. He held out his hand as if he was entitled to a few bucks. And of course we politely declined him.

That was something that I didn’t like about the Philippines. I understand that I am a foreigner in the country but I can’t just hand out my money to everyone who asks. It wasn’t about being selfish because I did give a few pesos to a few kids when I went to the local store because they reminded me of my nephew back home but I only had so much money left and I had to spend wisely.

But anyway we decided to hit the nightlife in Angeles City that night to see how it compares to Pattaya. Needless to say it’s nothing like Pattaya in Thailand. The nightlife scene is very in your face. It’s loud chaotic and all your senses are overloaded. It was a lot more relaxed in the Philippines with a few girls outside their bars trying to get people in. They weren’t as pushy or touchy as the girls you’d see in Soi Six for example.

    A Night Out With Friends

    a-night-out-with-friends

So we bar hopped a few places and stepped into this small go go bar and got seated right away by the mamasan. She was a bit pushy right away about the girls. So my friends found whoever they liked but I wasn’t in the mood to take anyone out that night. I had just spent time in Samui the go go girl from the first story from Pattaya a few days ago so I was tired but enjoyed the company of my friends and their girls.

We all left back to our hotel which wasn’t far because the guys and their ladies went to handle their business. I figured I’d just get some sleep and recharge for the next day. But after half an hour or so I get a call from the fellas and they say they’re all heading to McDonald’s for some food. I join them and my friend Lewis says to me “I need to get rid of my girl tonight.” I say “Why?” He replies with “She’s missing her front two teeth. Every time she smiles it throws me off. At first she was cute but not anymore. Right there.” I wanted to burst out laughing and said to him “Then why did you bar fine her?

We also saw that she had no front teeth.” He then proceeds to blame it on the alcohol and tells me that he’s going to tell her that he needs to do some online work because he has brought his laptop with him so she needs to go home and then maybe they’ll meet again another day. He pays her what he owes her and although she was happy about it I could tell she really wanted to spend the night with Lewis.

So the next day comes and the fellas ask if I wanted to walk to the mall with them. I tell them that I’m still tired and I will join them later when I wake up. I got up an hour later and decided that I needed to go explore a bit. I tell myself that since I’m by myself I needed to be aware of my surroundings. Usually I feel pretty safe and secure about where I’m going but it just felt different being here in Angeles compared to Pattaya or Bangkok. I didn’t stroll too far and I stopped in Jollibee restaurant to get some food. I get a call later from my friends and they tell me to meet up with them at the hotel to tell me something that happened to Daniel.

Apparently while they were walking to the mall Daniel started to fall behind Kurt and Lewis because he was strolling on his phone when two young men approached him struck up a conversation while a third guy pickpocketed him. I asked Daniel “You didn’t feel it when you were being pickpocketed?” He just replied with “Nope. I had my backpack on my side hip. So that’s probably why they got me all because I was distracted.” Apparently he only found out because when he tried to buy food at the mall he reached into his backpack and noticed that the money had gone. I believe they stole about 20000 pesos from Daniel’s bag that’s equivalent to a little over 300 US. So always have your bags packed up to your chest whenever traveling to whoever is listening.

But we went out again and took a stroll on Angeles City’s own version of Walking Street. We entered a club met some young ladies who wanted to come back to the hotel with us. We all come back to Daniel’s room for more drinks and this is where things got wild really quickly. The girl that was with Lewis said that she was ready for some aerobics with him and he said he’d like for them to go back to his room if she was ready but she jokingly said “How about we just do it here?” Then her friends chime in and say “Yeah let’s all just do it here.” The guys and I all look at each other and Kurt yells out “All right let’s do it then.” From that point on things escalated between them quickly. Lewis and his girl went into the shower together.

    An Unbelievable Hotel Moment

    an-unbelievable-hotel-moment

Daniel and Kurt started to undress themselves as well as their girls. I’m laughing and surprised about what’s happening knowing that I wasn’t trying to be a part of this. I left a minute later and well you can imagine what happened in that room. I thought to myself ‘Nobody is ever going to believe this happened.’

The next day we packed up and headed to Manila. I felt a bit relieved because I just never felt that comfortable in Angeles City especially after what happened to Daniel. The area we stayed in just felt really sketchy overall and had a lot of dark alleyways that we all had to walk through. It was definitely more modern in Manila and this time we stayed at a hotel just right across P. Burgos Street. That night we decided to dine at an American themed restaurant on P. Burgos. The staff told us there would be a wait time and so I told my friends that I’m going to take a mini stroll around the block just to check things out a bit.

As I walked around I heard a strange voice from a distance saying “Hey sir would you like a massage? Come over here.” I looked up and declined thinking nothing of it. I got back to the restaurant where my friends are at and went to the restroom to wash up when I saw a very particular sign talking about the strange occurrence that I just faced. It said something along the lines of “For your own safety if anyone offers you a massage and tells you to come over to them please don’t. Always be aware of your surroundings.” A chill ran through my spine when I read that and I went to tell my friends about it. They were also kind of wowed by what I told them and by my experience from earlier. We did not let that ruin the mood though.

So after having dinner we rested up a bit and went back out to P. Burgos to check out the bars. We hopped around a bit and stepped foot into this go go bar with a lot of beautiful and attractive ladies. It was a bit overwhelming at first for me because they’d all greet us as if we were celebrities and they’re all lined up just waiting to be chosen for our company. I finally settled on this beautiful young lady who I’ll name Jasmine. She said she was 21 and hadn’t been working in the club that long you know the usual bar girl script. I enjoyed her company and bought her a few drinks and decided to take her back to my hotel. She was petite sort of my type and the aerobic session was awesome.

She told me all about her life saying that her father was actually Colombian but he lives in Colombia and her mother was of course Filipino. She had a brother who was a ladyboy and that she doesn’t want to be in this line of work forever. She explains to me that she was going to school to be a flight attendant and during the night she’d be working at the go go. She also says that her mother doesn’t know what she’s a go go girl and assumes that she’s just a waitress at a restaurant who works long hours. Jasmine also tells me that she doesn’t have a boyfriend because what guy would want to be with a girl who does this for work. She was a really nice girl and I think we had a solid connection.

But I just took everything with a grain of salt because when I just happened to peep over to her when she was touching her phone she had a display picture of her hugging another man like they were in a relationship. I just told myself ‘Oh well it’s none of my business. You have to do what you have to do to survive. Who am I to judge? I’m just here to have fun.’ After multiple aerobic sessions Jasmine leaves me and tells me to come see her again before I leave the country.

    A Day Out in Manila

    a-day-out-in-manila

The next day my friends and I decided to go to this huge mall in the BGC area of Manila. We decided to explore a bit and maybe buy some gifts for our families back home. I decided to post something on social media and another good friend of mine back home from the States asked me how the Philippines was. He was in the United States Marines and he was stationed in the Philippines for some time and he told me there was this spot where you could meet women who were freelancing. Thinking about it now it was like the Philippines’ version of Thermae Cafe back in Bangkok. So after talking about it at the mall the guys and I decided to check out this place that was recommended by my Marine friend.

We got to the place and needless to say it was in a very sketchy neighborhood. It was very clear that we were definitely not locals and we felt that all eyes were on us as if people were saying “What are you four doing here?” But fortunately nothing weird happened and we stepped foot into the place. We felt more at ease because we could see that there were other foreigners. We got a seat looked around to see if we saw any women that we might like but saw nothing for a while. I was starting to feel like we were out of place and that maybe we should leave because we didn’t find any of the girls we liked. But then we see a group of five younger ladies eyeing us from across the room and possibly talking about us.

Kurt and I talked about it and we waved the girls over to come join us for some drinks.

The girl that I met from the group was named Nancy. She was cute but she wasn’t outgoing like her friends. I tried my best to get her to drink a few shots of whiskey with us but she wouldn’t. So a few hours later the girls and us agreed on a price and they decided to come with us. Lewis said he was tired and did not feel like having aerobics with his girl. So Kurt stepped in told Lewis that he would take her off his hands and have another three person aerobic session with them. That left me and Daniel with Nancy and her two other friends.

We got back to my hotel room and it was like deja vu all over again from Angeles City. Only this time I was about to join the aerobic session. All of a sudden Daniel and I are undressed with these three Filipinos having aerobics with Nancy and her friends. It was one of the craziest and wildest nights of aerobics I’ve ever been in. We all slept in my hotel room that night and the next day Nancy woke up and asked me if I would like to see her again on that day. I told her to exchange WhatsApp with me and told her I’ll message her. The ladies leave and I meet up with the guys. We tell each other ‘What happened here in the Philippines stays in the Philippines.

If we were to tell any of our friends about what happened here would they even believe us?’ I’m sure your viewers might not even believe this story Peter.

    Leaving the Philippines

    leaving-the-philippines

So as our trip starts to wind down and we only have a few more days left before we leave back to Thailand Lewis tells us that we should go to Pattaya one more time before we leave Thailand for home. We agree on it since it will be our last crazy and wild adventure for a while. But before we can do that we should leave the Philippines with a bang first. Our last night in Manila we walked around P. Burgos one more time when Kurt asked me jokingly ‘Hey let’s step foot into the go go where Jasmine works one last time.’ I wanted to take it easy before I left for our flight the next day. But Kurt smirked at me knowing that if I stepped foot in there I’d more than likely bar fine Jasmine again.

I contemplated for a minute thinking if I should give in to my desires to see her and have one more night with her or not. Let’s just say my desires got the best of me. We stepped foot into the go go and Jasmine came right over to me excited. Of course I took her out again. The aerobics back at my hotel was just as wonderful as the first time.

After our session I tell her ‘Good luck with everything. Good luck with school. Good luck with life in general’ knowing that I’ll never see her again but again wishing her nothing but the best. A lot of the girls I met on my trip were just trying to do what they could to survive. Some had family debts to pay off. Some had family to take care of. It’s easy to fall in love with some of them because a lot of them are great at what they do. But if you know the situation you’re getting yourself into then it will be fine. Have your fun. Build a little connection. But when it’s done just let it go. Remember you’re on vacation and just visiting not living there.

So to end this story of my mongering in Thailand and the Philippines it’s obviously a great holiday destination for anyone who enjoys nightlife different experiences different cultures and things that you might not find back home. Respecting the locals goes a long way and just use common sense when dealing with different situations. Don’t be such a cheap Charlie when you’re on vacation. Obviously don’t go spending everything in one place but always make sure you have enough to do what you want to do.

Story Two A Magical Night in Bangkok No Strings Attached

    story-two-a-magical-night-in-bangkok-no-strings-attached

I’m now retired and can do whatever I like. My girlfriend is much younger than me so she wants to keep working. Fortunately she understands that at my age I can’t wait to travel. If I have to wait until she retires she’ll end up pushing me around in a wheelchair. She understands this. And I also understand that she still wants to work and build a career in Bangkok.

Just for old times’ sake I went to Nana Plaza specifically to a beer bar. I wanted to see what it’s like there now. It sounds silly but it took me a while to find it. In my memory it was open air and there was far less noise. It might also be because I was there early around 600 PM. After a while a very nice and pretty lady came over to me and struck up a conversation. Of course I still remembered and if not I would have known from your stories on your YouTube channel that in that sort of place it’s quite wise to offer a lady drink. I did so of course and she went to the bar and came back with a beer for me and a lady drink for herself. Being thrifty I did check the receipt and it all added up.

She was from Isaan and had a 9 year old son and was 27 herself. She had two sisters and a brother. One of her sisters also lived in Bangkok. She’d only been working in the bar for 4 months. The usual story. Her name was Kun a name I promptly forgot but she was very likable and I ordered another lady drink and a beer for myself. The receipts kept adding up without any mistakes. I don’t know how it happened but suddenly I asked if she wanted to come with me. She said ‘Of course’ and quoted the prices. I said ‘Fine.’

My hotel was quite a way off. We had to take the BTS but that wasn’t a problem. ‘Just wait until 700 PM. Then my shift will be over’ she said. ‘And you won’t have to pay a bar fine. Go on now. Then I’ll see you at the traffic lights.’ I promptly walked in the wrong direction but after 10 meters I realized I had to go the other way and turned back. Would she think I was ditching her by walking the wrong way? Or perhaps she’d ditch me and not turn up. But there she was looking radiant. And off we went.

I suggested we have a quick shower at my hotel first and then go for a bite to eat. That was fine. They didn’t make a fuss at the hotel because she had her ID card with her. She went in the shower first came out wrapped in a towel and then I went in. When I came out of the shower she was still wrapped in a towel sitting on the bed waiting for me. ‘We’re going out to eat something aren’t we?’ I said. Apparently she’d been expecting some aerobics straight away. I explained that I wanted to make it a pleasant evening for her and for me. I turned away and she got dressed.

After dinner at one of those outdoor restaurants on simple plastic stools but with really tasty food we went back to the hotel. She didn’t want a drink in the lobby anymore. In the room I paid her in full in advance the full agreed amount upfront. Many listeners might perhaps you too will think this move of mine was stupid but I didn’t want her to feel obliged to stay because she hadn’t been paid yet. Whether she understood the symbolism of paying in advance me trusting her to keep the bargain instead of the other way round I don’t know but that doesn’t matter.

    Keeping Valuables Safe

    keeping-valuables-safe

So back in the shower this time for me first. There was a reason for that too. While she was in the shower I inspected the safe and put all my valuables inside. So there was no way she could look over my shoulder at the code which remains visible for a moment after locking. I was already in bed under the duvet wearing my pajama bottoms and she came and lay down under the duvet too wrapped in a towel. We actually spent the whole night doing aerobics starting with aerobics followed by a bit of sleep followed by a bit of aerobics then more sleep again and so on. During the aerobics she sang a lot and loudly if you know what I mean. Lots of kissing too. This lady was a pro and certainly hadn’t been in the business for just 4 months.

Halfway through the night I asked ‘Do you remember my name?’ Of course she’d forgotten it. Me too but not anymore.

In the morning she said ‘You haven’t finished yet.’ That was true. Whether it was a guilt feeling towards my girlfriend or my advanced age I don’t know but it wasn’t down to her I can tell you that. Perhaps that was the reason she carried on all night. What can I say? It was a wonderful night and morning almost magical and we said a warm goodbye. No sweet nothings no ‘handsome man’ nonsense. I promised a night without any pressure. She’d been paid in advance so she could leave whenever she wanted but she stayed until the end. We exchanged WhatsApp numbers and thanked each other later that day by app for the lovely evening.

She’s going to visit her son for a week next week so it’s three weeks on and one week off for her. I’m now on the move again too. Bangkok was just the first stop. Whether she’s actually going home remains a mystery of course for all I know a boyfriend from Europe or Australia might pop round but I’m not really interested in that. Couldn’t really touch me. Of course I’m not getting any silly ideas into my head. I have a lovely girlfriend and the age difference is simply too great and I’m too old also to please her as a young man. It’s a matter of bad timing or perhaps good timing. If I were younger I would definitely have made a move on her with a likely outcome to figure in one of your many crash and burn stories like you’ve read out on your channel.

I wish Kun all the best. Unfortunately I can’t think of anything I can do to help her in a meaningful way.

Story Three George The Sucker Who Lost Everything

    story-three-george-the-sucker-who-lost-everything

I met a guy named George from Virginia USA a few years back while staying in Negros Oriental. Every morning he and I would chat during breakfast at our hotel with his girlfriend and mine. He was a very friendly guy but to be honest he looked a bit tired and broken down at his age of 61. His Filipina girlfriend in her mid 20s while not the hottest girl I’ve ever seen was pretty cute with a nice figure. He was so proud of her always rubbing her feet and kissing her at the table. And I could see the relationship really invigorated him. I was happy for him but I couldn’t help but wonder if he might be headed for trouble due to their physical mismatch and age difference. Still I hoped the best for them especially him as he seemed kind and genuinely in love with her.

Long story short they got the fiancée visa and while supporting and spoiling her all through the process he finally got her to America. Anyway George and I kept in touch on Facebook and for a short time everything was like heaven for him. He told me that they had a big expensive wedding. After getting married they went everywhere together. He showed her off in church and to friends and family while she cooked loved and doted all over him.

After a few months though she suddenly started to grow cold towards him showing less affection not cooking even though she didn’t work not greeting him after he came home from work. He was the owner of a business worth a few million dollars and sometimes she wouldn’t even talk to him for days. Her mother and six sisters yes six sisters were already in America and they all lived not ironically within an hour of his house in Virginia. They would come over to visit speaking only in their own language ignoring him and generally taking over the whole house. All the while he being well to do was paying for 100% of everything including her credit card bill which his new wife used to buy pricey clothes shoes and fancy designer bags on.

She didn’t even have money for decent secondhand clothing before they had met and now she was spending his money like a cat at a Japanese fish auction. She even sent money back to other family members still in the Philippines on his dime.

Maybe six months later I called him on Messenger just to see how he was doing. He was the total opposite of the guy I’d met in Negros. He was disenchanted dejected confused embarrassed and felt totally betrayed. He had given to her and her family with honest and loving intentions only to be trampled all over and treated like a dirty doormat. If he divorced her he was going to lose a lot of money to a woman he had put absolutely zero capital into what he had built up a long way before she had even knew he existed. To a woman who was living in a hut when they had met wearing her brother’s oversized worn out t shirts with holes in them. I tried to cheer him up but I knew that almost inevitable outcome. So there was little I could say except hang in there.

So George had nothing but a bad outcome to face either way he turned. If he divorced her he was finished. If he stayed in the relationship he was finished. And as for how they met they met on some kind of ‘Filipinos for Americans’ dating website with her specifically set to you guessed it Virginia. There is no doubt in my mind with her mom and six sisters already being in Virginia that they hadn’t planned it out all along to find a guy nearby with money. Perhaps they thought if it worked out if she could find a guy she was really attracted to and loved him great. If not they knew they had a sucker they could get a free ride to America from and loads of money. Sadly poor George was that sucker.

The Cost of Trusting Too Much

    the-cost-of-trusting-too-much

After a while we sort of lost contact with each other but I’m sure it didn’t end well for him. I guess as I end this tale I’ll ask are guys sometimes the bad characters in the story? Sure many women have had their hearts broken here by guys coming to the Philippines for fun time on a short vacation promising love and a future only to never return. But guys if you’re the one with the money and the assets remember you have a lot more to lose than a broken heart. Be a good guy to the women over here or anywhere but be wise be wary and don’t end up another sad story like George.
