Thailand is becoming more expensive and more complicated for visitors in 2026.

Thailand Airport Passenger Service Charge

Thailand’s international airport Passenger Service Charge is 1,120 Thai Baht from June 20, 2026, up from 730 Thai Baht. The charge is included in international air tickets, so travelers may notice the increase when comparing fares.

The higher fee is intended to support airport and passenger service upgrades, but it adds to already expensive flights. A Bangkok to Dubai ticket can cost around 850 US dollars, while the reverse journey may be closer to 600 US dollars. Taxes are not the only reason for the difference, but flights leaving Bangkok can be noticeably more expensive than flights arriving there.

For anyone planning a Thailand holiday, checking the full fare before booking is now more important. The headline ticket price may not reflect every airport charge and tax included at checkout.

Thai Baht Exchange Rates and Rising Daily Costs

Exchange rates are another major concern for visitors. A recent exchange of 100 US dollars produced about 3,200 Thai Baht, making the strength of the Thai Baht an important part of a traveler’s budget.

Food and household essentials in Bangkok also feel more expensive than before. A typical weekly shop with vegetables, coffee, milk, and meat can cost more, even at budget supermarkets such as Makro. Visitors staying longer are likely to notice these increases more than short term tourists.

Beer prices show the same pattern. Bottles in markets can range from about 40 to 70 Thai Baht, while a small beer in a pub or bar often costs 150 to 180 Thai Baht. Domestic Flight Prices From Bangkok To Phuket And Krabi

Today, we are traveling to Krabi. I booked my flight at 2:00 a.m. yesterday, and it is only 900 Thai baht to Krabi. These days you can find flights starting from 500 Thai baht. My advice is to book the early flights. Today I was lucky to find an afternoon flight for that price, but if you are flying early, you can find even cheaper than that, starting from 500 Thai baht.

I also booked my hotel in the middle of the action in Ao Nang for only 650 Thai baht.

International flights from Europe have been cancelled or rescheduled, with fuel problems and higher prices often mentioned as reasons. But domestic flights are becoming more expensive too. Once you arrive in Thailand, you may want to explore Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui, and Chiang Mai.

In the low season, flights were previously available for about 1,500 to 2,000 Thai Baht both ways. A Bangkok to Phuket return journey could cost around 2,000 Thai Baht or even less. A flight to Phuket in May, however, cost 3,600 Thai Baht, almost 50 percent more than the usual low-season price.

Hotel And Island Tour Costs In Thailand

Hotel prices remain more manageable than flight prices, with options for different budgets in Phuket, Krabi, and other destinations. A budget hotel in Phuket cost 700 Thai Baht without breakfast, while a luxury hotel with breakfast cost about 4,000 Thai Baht.

Island tours and boat trips have also become more expensive. Previously, a package including entrance fees and food cost about 1,500 or 1,600 Thai Baht. Current prices start around 2,000 to 2,500 Thai Baht and can reach 3,000 Thai Baht per person.

Booking tours locally instead of online can make it easier to compare the options once you arrive. Still, anyone certain about travelling to Thailand should arrange flights and accommodation early because prices may not fall soon.

Bangkok MRT Card Changes for Foreign Passengers

The old MRT card was empty, so I went to the cashier to top it up. The cashier explained, “This expired cannot top up, sir. Only for limited term money. Buy your bus ticket because we change for the new version for the Thai people. We use an application in Thai. Registration is by Thai ID card only now.”

That means the old card no longer works for this service. The replacement is an application that passengers download and top up on a phone, but it is currently available only to people with a Thai ID.

Foreigners, tourists, and expats using the MRT underground service therefore have two choices. They can buy a token for a single trip or a day pass, or they can use a Visa card or Mastercard to pay for the journey. The prepaid card and the new application are not available without a Thai ID.

Suvarnabhumi Airport Transport Prices

After returning to Bangkok from Pattaya through Suvarnabhumi Airport, I noticed that transportation prices had increased. A bus between the airport and Pattaya now costs 170 Thai Baht when booked on site and about 200 Thai Baht when booked online. The earlier price was 143 Thai Baht.

The increase is not dramatic, but prices are gradually becoming more expensive. Taxis, Grab, and Bolt were operating normally. A Grab ride from the airport to a home about 15 km away cost about 351 Thai Baht.

That still felt inexpensive compared with airport taxis in other countries, where the cheapest ride can cost more than 1,000 Thai Baht.

Bangkok Hotel Prices in the Low Season

Hotel prices in Bangkok were described as especially affordable as the city entered the low season and the rainy season. A recent booking was a five star hotel with breakfast for $50.

The booking was for a birthday event, so staying overnight made more sense than driving afterward. For visitors coming to Thailand, this period may offer good value at comfortable hotels, especially in Bangkok.
