Rajadamnern Stadium Bangkok Immersive Muay Thai

Visiting Thailand and not seeing Muay Thai is like missing the most authentic experience in Thailand today. I am here in front of Rajadamnern Stadium, the oldest Muay Thai stadium in Thailand. Eighty years ago, it gave birth to the world’s first Muay Thai stadium, and now it is raising the bar with the world’s first immersive Muay Thai dome.

It was double excitement: Muay Thai and the immersive dome. I had my tickets, so I went inside to start the evening. The place was crowded, especially because it was almost 80 years since Rajadamnern Stadium opened.

The security was tight, just like at an airport. This was the main entrance, and I went inside to find my seats. There were different seating options, from seats behind the cage to VIP-type seats and seats directly in front of the ring. The prices differ depending on the type of seat.

There were eight fights, and the seventh was a super fight. The last fight was the one most people were waiting for, when the famous champion Buakaw fought a challenger from China. The first fight was China versus Thailand.

Each fight is three rounds, and the fighter who wins two rounds wins the match. Before the fight starts, the fighters perform traditional movements to Thai music, stretch and then begin kicking. The big screens show the close-ups, so you can see the important moments.

The traditional movements, the music, stretching and kicking are part of the build-up before the fight. If the first fight was like that, the later ones became more intense.

There was a live DJ in the stadium, and the entertainment was excellent. There were big screens all around, and you could have all the food and drinks you wanted. There were also different activities between the fights, including dancing, drinking and finding a match.

After four fights, things were becoming more intense. I wanted to share everything, but at the same time I was putting my camera down and enjoying the moments.

One of the fights was between a woman from the USA and a woman from Thailand. I was told that the Thai fighter was aggressive and would give everything. This fight was more intense than the men’s fight. The Thai fighter kicked the American fighter and won in two rounds, and the American fighter could not continue.

Then it was time for the immersive experience. The dome felt like a real sky above my head. The sound, colours and atmosphere made me forget for a moment that I was in a boxing stadium. I had never seen anything like it before, and I could not capture my feelings on camera.

It was the first immersive experience in Muay Thai history, and it was amazing.

After the dome, it was time for the super fight that everyone was waiting for. It was not three rounds but five rounds, so the fight was especially tense. The champion was fighting the challenger, and the crowd became silent before suddenly reacting.

The champion stayed champion. It was an amazing night at Rajadamnern Stadium.
