Bangkok Airport Arrival Guide: TDAC, Immigration and more

One of the most beautiful feelings is to arrive to Thailand, pass the immigration smoothly, do your things at the airport, and go out without wasting any time and above all without any headaches. So, almost every year things are changing fast, new rules, regulations, requirements, but once you know them, I’m sure everything will go smoothly.

So first thing first before even you jump into the plane, TDAC you have to apply for Thailand Digital Arrival Card. You know that Thailand in 2025 replaced the classical written arrival card with a digital one online, which is called, as I said, Thailand Digital Arrival Card. So you can apply in an interval of 72 hours before your flight. You cannot apply it before and you cannot apply it after.

And I recommend that you apply it before you arrive to Thailand because once you arrive, there are machines that you can apply at the airport, but it’s a waste of time. Apply it before even you jump into the plane. Don’t forget TDAC. And one more thing, apply it on the official website, which is totally free.

Now the second thing is also before you jump to the plane, please have funds. I mean, who comes to Thailand without having sufficient funds to cover the travel expenses? So it’s very easy: 20,000 Thai baht per person, 40,000 Thai baht per family. And lots of you ask me, should it be in Thai baht? No, it’s not necessary. It can be in any currency or in any proof. So don’t worry, but just in case immigration asks you, you should show proof of sufficient funds to cover your travel expenses unless you will be in trouble, and in 2026 it’s very serious.

Walking to Suvarnabhumi Immigration

All right, now your plane has arrived to Thailand. You arrived to Thailand and you are walking to the immigration. Lots of you ask me how long you have to walk. Well, it depends on where your plane taxis. So if the plane taxi is far from the immigration, then the walk could take around 10, even sometimes 15 minutes, but if you’re lucky it won’t take more than 2 minutes.

No, that’s not the issue. The issue is that lots of people waste time while they are walking to the immigration because there are lots of services along the way. Avoid them, like exchanging money or buying a SIM card or any other services, because all the services along the way are not the best rates. So just walk to the immigration and once you arrive, let’s talk about point 4.

Immigration and Fast Track at Bangkok Airport

So now we are at the immigration and it won’t take more than 5 seconds to go out unless you have red flags. But as I said, you have applied for TDAC, you have sufficient funds and of course you have a return flight. But if you don’t have a return flight, no problem. You should have an excuse just in case they ask you why you don’t have a return flight.

But most of the time, if you don’t have red flags, nothing will be asked and you will be out from the immigration in 5 seconds. Just follow the steps and everything will be very smooth. And just in case you are in a hurry and you know that it’s rush hour or maybe the peak season and you want to use the fast track, then you can go online at the official website and use the fast track if you don’t want to lose any time once you arrive to Thailand. But most of the time the immigration is so fast. Once you arrive, it won’t take more than 5 seconds, as I said, if you don’t have any red flags or complications.

Baggage Claim, Customs and Airport Exit

So now you passed the immigration and it’s time to claim your luggage. Let me give you some information about what are the things that you can bring to Thailand or not so that you will avoid troubles once you pass the immigration and once you are claiming your luggage.

When entering Thailand, as you see, you’re allowed 200 cigarettes or 250 grams tobacco cigars and one liter of alcohol per person duty-free. Exceeding these limits requires declaration and potential fines. So guys, don’t bring more than that unless you are going to be in trouble.

Now, concerning money or cash, you can bring any amount of foreign currency into Thailand, but you must declare it if it exceeds 20,000 USD or equivalent. So guys, follow the rules, stay away from troubles, and just in case you have more than 20,000 USD or equivalent in foreign currencies, then declare it.

So once you claim your luggage, there are many exit points. No need to panic. Take any exit point. But one advice, there are lots of services along the way. Again, ignore them because once you are out, the rates are much better. So take any exit and welcome officially to Thailand.

SIM Cards, Currency Exchange and Meeting Points

Now once you are out you can see there are lots of exchange services just in case you want to exchange and you don’t have any Thai baht, you can exchange a small amount because here the rates are not the best. But if you want to exchange bigger amounts, then you can go to the basement floor. But here, if you want to exchange a little bit of money to buy a SIM card, then you can exchange it. The rates are okay.

And one more thing, if you want to get cash from the ATM there are lots of ATMs. You can get Thai baht just in case you are going to use your cards.

So which SIM card should you buy or which eSIM service should you get? Don’t make any headaches for you guys. Just take whatever you like because most of the services are the same and the internet in Thailand is amazing. Either you can get through TrueMove or let’s say AIS, but both of them are good and it all depends on how long you are going to stay in Thailand. If you are staying for one week, take it for 1 week, 2 weeks or for 1 month. But as I said, don’t get things complicated. Take any service. All of them are great.

Now if you continue walking after all these services, you are going to get to the meeting point where usually, if someone is waiting for you, you can check which meeting point. There are A, B, C and according to that you can meet.

Now you are connected to the internet, then no problem to chat with anyone waiting for you. So don’t forget, once you walk after passing all these services you are going to be at the meeting points. Next to the meeting points you have also the pre-booked taxis. As you can see, the names, people are waiting for you just in case you have pre-booked your taxi before you arrive to Thailand. Then they are around the meeting point.

Airport Floors: Taxis, Buses and Food

This is also another thing that you should know once you are at the second floor. As you can see you have shuttle bus service to Don Mueang Airport. And if you want to take the service you can go to the second floor, gate 3, and take the shuttle bus. Just in case you arrive to Suvarnabhumi Airport and you want to go to Don Mueang Airport, don’t forget you can take this service, the shuttle bus from the second floor, gate 3.

All these things are available at the second floor, which is the arrival floor. And I’m sure once you need them, it will be very efficient to save time and money.

All right, let’s say now you are hungry and you want to eat. Then there are lots of food options at the third floor, but they are not the cheapest. Just in case you want to eat something before you leave the airport or maybe you are traveling back home and you want to eat something, then the third floor is full of food options. As I said, they are not the cheapest. You have fast food, Thai food, international food.

Public Taxi, Grab and Bus Options

Now we are heading to the taxi and public transportation zone, which is at the first floor. So if you want to take public taxi or buses, then what are the best options and of course what is the fastest way, cheapest way to leave the airport and go to the city? The first floor is for the public transportation and taxis and of course if you want to take buses.

Let us start from the taxis. Once you arrive to the first floor you have to go out because you have lots of options. So once you exit first floor, you have three options: short distance, regular taxi, large taxi. You choose which one is good for you. And after that, just follow the signs. And for me, it’s one of the best options because the other options that I’m going to show you now, they are very crowded. And surely don’t worry if you want to take public taxi. No scams. Just follow the rules. As you can see in front there are machines. You have to take a number. Once you take the number you can walk and check which zone, for example you are at 29, 31, which lane, and after that you can take the taxi. The taxi driver will be waiting for you.

If you want to take public taxi, most of the time it’s not crowded, it’s better than the other services.

Now let me tell you about the other options, Grab and Bolt. Just in case you want to use those services, you have to walk the public taxis to the opposite side and you can see the big Grab sign and of course you can see how busy is this place. Lots of people are waiting for their taxis. You have zone B, zone A, zone C and once your taxi has arrived you can check the number and hop in. But as I said, most of the time Grab and Bolt, yes, they are good services, but you can see how busy it is. Well, if you’re not in a hurry, then enjoy the ride.

Now, let’s say you don’t want to take a taxi, you are going to take a bus to the city. Also, this service is available at the first floor. And of course if you want to take a bus into other destinations, you arrive to the airport and you want to go to Pattaya, to Hua Hin, to Koh Kood, wherever you want to go, the buses are available. As you can see, section 7, and along the way you can see also you have SIM card services and money exchange.

Now at the first floor, as you can see behind me, is the Magic Food Court. If you want to eat cheap food, local food, then it’s available at the first floor. I told you at the third floor you have lots of options. But if you want to eat cheap food at a food court, then it’s available as you can see behind me, the Magic Food Court.

Best Exchange Rates and Services on the Basement Floor

Now, let’s say you didn’t exchange any money, you didn’t buy SIM cards, and you want to do all these things at the basement floor, then it’s a good idea. So, if you go to the basement floor, you can find all these services. It’s behind the public transportation, the Airport Rail Link, and beside that you have also lots of other services.

So as you can see now we are walking towards the Airport Rail Link and we are at the basement floor. You follow the signs as if you are walking to the Airport Rail Link. You turn left and there you can find the best exchange services. Along the way, you can see also you have Thai street food just in case you want to eat. Food options are a lot at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

So here we are. This way you go to the public transportation, and you don’t go to the right side. You just continue straight. You can see there are exchange services here and they are the best. Here at the basement floor you have luggage services just in case you want to send your luggage. You can see the prices are very cheap. One day 100 baht, 30 days 2,000 Thai baht. Wrap it, keep it, whatever you want.

Airport Hotels and the Airport Rail Link to Bangkok

If you continue directly after all these services, we have to be quiet because you have the airport hotels at this place. Check this out. These are the capsule hotels. I’ve tried it one time. Wow, what an experience. And after that, you have box hotel. So, if you are going to stay at the airport, then you can book it online. You can sleep, take a shower, refresh yourself. And for me, the basement floor is the best floor because you have all the services: exchanging money, sending your luggage, getting a SIM card, and even staying at the airport.

All right, now that you know all the services and everything about the airport, let’s take the Airport Rail Link, which is also available at the basement floor. So if you want to take the Airport Rail Link, as you can see, smart journey just 45 Thai baht and to the city center just 45 Thai baht in 27 minutes. So that’s the Airport Rail Link depending where you are going, but in less than 30 minutes you can be at the city center and maximum fare 45.

Now, guys, if you don’t want to buy a token and you have a credit card, debit card, whatever, Mastercard, you can tap it. That’s a new thing at the airport without waiting in all this lane because sometimes it’s very, very crowded and you’re going to lose a lot of time. There’s a machine. You can buy it also from the cashier, the counter there.

We are at Suvarnabhumi Airport. You can go to Phaya Thai and go to Sukhumvit. But in our case, we are going to Huamark and it’s only 25 Thai baht. That’s it. 25 Thai baht. This is 20 and this is five baht. And this is the token. As you can see, that’s for the cards. If you have any cards, you can use it without wasting any time.

We took the token. Unfortunately, it wasn’t busy and you can see from here you need 5 minutes for the train arrival. So, we still got time. So, we are here at Suvarnabhumi Airport and we are going to Huamark station because I want to take the yellow line. But most of the time for the tourists they go either to Makkasan Station or Phaya Thai Station because at Makkasan Station you can take the MRT, interchange it with the underground train and you can go to Sukhumvit. Or if you want to go to Phaya Thai, take the BTS, exchange it with the sky train and go to Asok Station or Nana or wherever you want to go in Sukhumvit or the city center. Everything is through this line. So very convenient, only 45 baht and less than 30 minutes you are in the city.

So here I am at the city and as you can see behind me, 40 minutes to the city. And my last advice to you, enjoy Thailand as much as possible. Stay away from troubles.
