I Ignored Every Warning About Thai Women… It Cost Me a Fortune

My first experience with Thailand came through some guys I knew from our fishing club here in the UK. They all lived fairly close to me. But back then, I only really bothered with them when we went fishing. That changed after I got divorced.
They’d been going to Thailand for years. I’d seen their photographs and heard countless stories about Thai women and life over there. One of my friends had spent so much time in Thailand that he could even speak Thai really well.
Eventually, I went to Pattaya with them. The frustrating thing when I look back now is that I wasn’t walking into Thailand completely blind. Another cautionary story is A Close Call in Thailand. These guys had experience. They gave me plenty of advice. I just didn’t listen to any of it.
So, I went against what they told me and eventually it cost me a fortune financially. More than that, it hit me emotionally.
I met a Thai woman and eventually brought her back to the UK. At one point, I left her with my bank card. I’d shown her how to use it and explained that she could withdraw £50 at a time.
She would take £50 out each day. Then she discovered something I hadn’t expected. She realized she could withdraw £500 per day. She carried on doing that until she’d emptied my entire bank account.
Now, she convinced me that the money had gone to her family in Thailand to build an extension onto the house I’d already built for her. That was what I believed. Then her father suddenly had a big 4×4 truck.
That was only one of the many lies that I discovered. But financially, as bad as that was, it wasn’t the worst thing that happened.
The worst came when I found out that she was pregnant. And the baby wasn’t mine. She’d actually become pregnant by a Turkish guy working in our local kebab shop. After everything I’d already been through, that finished it for me. I swore that I would never get involved with another Thai woman again. Looking back now, I wish I could say that I stuck to that. But I didn’t.
My Second Experience with a Thai Woman Online

My second experience was different because this time I met the woman online. This was around the COVID period. So, because of all the restrictions, we couldn’t actually meet in person.
We did video calls most days, though, and over time I became involved with her, and once again I sent a lot of money.
Now, after what had happened to me the first time, you’d probably think I’d have been the most suspicious man in Britain. Maybe I should have been. But eventually, I did start wondering whether she was being completely truthful with me.
Something didn’t feel right. I had a friend look online to see if he could find anything about her. Another story that shows how badly misplaced trust can go is the man who was scammed out of $400,000 in Thailand.
What he discovered was that she had two Facebook pages. Then came the bigger surprise. She was living in Germany and she had a 3-year-old son.
Now, these were fairly important details about her life that somehow hadn’t been part of the version that I knew.
I confronted her about what we’d found. She laughed. Then she blocked me. And that was it.
After two experiences like that, I finally did what I’d promised myself I would do after the first one. I stopped getting involved with Thai women. I haven’t been in contact with another Thai woman romantically since, and I don’t intend to.
Even now, when I’m back home in Wales and I see a Thai woman with a British guy, I sometimes find myself wondering how long their relationship will last or whether she’ll remain faithful. I know that’s based on what happened to me personally. Two bad experiences obviously don’t tell you the story of every relationship. But when you’ve been through what I have, it’s difficult not to have those thoughts.
Enjoying My Fishing

The strange thing is that I’m currently single and I’m probably happier now than I’ve ever been at any point since my divorce.
I’ve gone back to enjoying my fishing. These days, I often go on my own, which actually suits me. I can go whenever I want, stay as long as I want, and don’t have to arrange my life around anybody else.
I spend a lot of time with my grandchildren as well. I enjoy spoiling them. That’s where I would rather put my time and money these days.
One of the guys I know is now living with a woman in Thailand. He even offered to introduce me to his wife’s cousin. My answer to that was simple. Not in a million years.
Now, I don’t keep anything Thai around my house anymore. No souvenirs or reminders of that period of my life. I’ve only got the memories.
I wouldn’t say I get satisfaction from hearing stories where other men have ended up in situations similar to mine. I wouldn’t wish what happened to me on anybody, but I do get a strange sense of relief sometimes. I hear one of the stories and I think I’m not the only one this has happened to.
And if there’s anything I hope somebody takes from my experience, it’s this. My biggest regret isn’t going to Thailand. I don’t regret that. My biggest regret is not listening to the people around me who already knew Thailand and were trying to warn me.
My mates had been there. They had the experience. They gave me advice. And I thought I knew better. I didn’t.
People will probably continue making the same mistakes I made because sometimes you don’t want to hear advice when you’re emotionally involved with somebody. I certainly didn’t. It took me two very expensive and painful experiences to finally understand that.
These days, I’m happier keeping life simple. I’ve got my fishing. I’ve got my grandchildren. And I’ve got my own freedom. And if my mate asks me again whether I want to meet his Thai wife’s cousin, he already knows the answer.
