After immigration and baggage claim, continue to the second-floor arrivals area. The nearest exit is usually the simplest route out, so there is no need to search for a particular exit before leaving the baggage area.
The international arrivals meeting point is marked by a yellow sign and is located around Exit 4, Exit 5, and Exit 6. If someone is waiting at the airport, walk towards this point. If you arrive near Exit 9, continue towards Exit 4 or Exit 5.
Pre-booked private taxis and guides also wait around the meeting point. The domestic arrivals section is farther along this part of the terminal.
Suvarnabhumi Airport Money Exchange and SIM Cards
Money exchange counters and phone SIM companies are available on the arrivals floor. Airport exchange rates are not usually the best, so exchange as little as possible there and use a better-rate service later.
ATMs, car-rental services, and private taxi services are also available. For a SIM card, the companies are broadly similar, so choose the package that matches the length of your stay and your data needs rather than spending a long time comparing every counter.
After exchanging money and buying a SIM, continue walking towards the meeting point. The arrivals floor has clear exit signs and connects with the rest of the terminal.
Suvarnabhumi Airport Public Taxis and Buses
Public taxis and buses are on the first floor. Take the first exit outside for the public taxi section; Exit 3 leads towards the taxis. The taxis wait on the right and are numbered.
Use the vending machine to take a taxi ticket and note the number assigned to you. Regular taxis and larger taxis are available, depending on the number of passengers and luggage. Give the driver the address and use the meter.
Bus tickets are available on the first floor by returning through Exit 7 and walking to the right. There are buses to Hua Hin, Pattaya, and other destinations, with departures about once an hour and relatively low prices. The buses wait outside near the public taxis.
Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link and Sleep Boxes
The basement floor provides access to the Airport Rail Link and hotels. A street-food restaurant is available there for an inexpensive meal before taking the train.
The basement is also where to find luggage storage boxes, pocket Wi-Fi rental, and money exchange services with better rates than the arrivals floor. The exchange counters are behind the Airport Rail Link, so keep that location in mind.
Airport accommodation ranges from small capsule-style sleep boxes to full rooms. The capsule options are suitable for a short one-night stay, while conventional rooms are available for travellers who want more space.
Suvarnabhumi Airport Restaurants, Departures, and VAT Refunds
The third floor has restaurants, shops, a pharmacy, and a wide choice of international food, Thai food, and fast-food chains. Vitamins and medicines are also available there.
The fourth-floor departures area is divided between international departures on the right and domestic departures on the left. Domestic gates are in the A, B, C, and D sections, with the international area farther along.
For a VAT refund, first show the purchased item and the yellow VAT form at the desk before entering the duty-free area. The staff check the item and stamp the form. After entering the duty-free zone, show the stamped form and item again at the second VAT refund section to receive the money. Without the first stamp, the refund cannot be completed.
SIM cards, baggage-wrapping services, and the information desk are also available on the departures floor. These are the main airport locations to know before arranging transport into downtown Bangkok.
Exchange Money at Suvarnabhumi Airport
The arrival floor is the second floor at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Do not exchange money on the second floor because the rates are low. Go to the basement floor behind public transportation for higher exchange rates. If you do not want to walk there, exchange as little as possible to buy a SIM card and pay for transportation.
Buy a Thailand SIM Card and Use Airport Wi-Fi
At the arrival floor you can buy SIM cards for seven days, 15 days, or one month. Choose according to how long you are staying and how much internet you need. A SIM card can also be bought at 7-Eleven in Bangkok for cheaper prices. Keep the number from the pack in your phone.
If you did not buy a SIM card at the airport, you can connect through the airport’s free internet.
Choose Airport Rail Link, Bus, or Metered Taxi
The bus is 60 Baht per person and operates from 6 until 8 pm, with stops along the way. For buses to Hua Hin or Pattaya, use the first floor.
There are three types of taxi: large, regular, and short-distance. Take a ticket from the machines on the first floor and follow the line for your taxi. The taxis are on the meter. The Airport Link is on the basement floor and connects public transport with downtown Bangkok.

Suvarnabhumi Airport can be extremely busy even in low season. The international departures floor had many travelers flying to India, China, Korea, and other destinations, with people sitting on the ground because there were few places to sit.
The domestic departures area was also busy, showing that low season does not necessarily mean an empty airport.
Cheap Domestic Flights from Bangkok

Buses from Suvarnabhumi Airport
Buses are available for travel from the airport to Hua Hin, Ayutthaya, Pattaya, and other destinations. The buses are air-conditioned, and prices mentioned were about 130 to 200 Thai baht depending on the destination.
Check the route, departure time, luggage conditions, and final price before buying a ticket. A bus can be a more affordable option than a taxi for longer journeys outside Bangkok.
Magic Food Airport Food Court
Magic Food on the first floor is an airport street-food court. It is a cheaper place to eat than many of the restaurants and food options on the second floor.
Prices were described as starting around 20 to 30 baht, and the food court can be busy with airport workers and travellers. Walk to the end of the first-floor public transport area to find it.
Departure Check In and Baggage Wrapping
Check in online before travelling from the airport to save time and reduce stress. If wrapping a bag, remove batteries and power banks from checked luggage first, check the luggage weight, and then wrap the bag.
Power banks and batteries should not be left in checked luggage. Checking the contents and weight before wrapping avoids having to open and wrap the luggage again.
VAT Refund and Duty Free
Before passing immigration, complete the required VAT refund step and stamp the yellow form. Travellers may forget this when they are in a hurry, but the stamp is needed before entering the immigration and duty-free area.
